Suicide Awareness & Prevention
With so many hours spent in the workplace, staff are often the first to notice when a colleague is struggling. Yet many lack the skills, knowledge, and confidence to start what could be a life-saving conversation. The same is true in our personal lives — whether it’s a friend, family member, or neighbour, knowing how to offer support can make all the difference.
This course aims to save lives by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training.
Description
- 3.5 hours
- Virtual or face-to-face delivery
- Minimum of 6 and maximum of 24 participants

As the leading cause of death amongst Australians between the ages of 15 and 49, suicide has a devastating impact on individuals, families, workplaces, and entire communities. Community awareness, connections, and resilience are critical to suicide prevention, recognising the important role of the wider population in building mentally healthy communities that are well-networked and resourceful.
Everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide. Workplaces, in particular, have a unique opportunity to contribute by embedding suicide prevention into their employee health and wellbeing initiatives. With the significant amount of time people spend at work — and the close relationships formed with colleagues — employees are often well positioned to notice when someone may be struggling. Just as importantly, the skills gained through this training can extend into our personal lives, helping us better support friends, family, and neighbours. Yet too often, people lack the skills, knowledge, and confidence to start what could be a life-saving conversation.
Suicide Awareness & Prevention training helps participants to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to:
- Identify suicide warning signs.
- Facilitate supportive conversations surrounding suicide
- Refer those at risk of suicide towards professional help.
Delivered within a convenient 3.5-hour time frame, our training supports organisations to upskill employees and support those at risk of suicide. This small investment builds a healthier, happier, and more resilient workplace as a result.

The Cost of Mentally Unhealthy Workplaces
Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of employees is essential to maintaining a safe and supportive working environment. When looking at the cost of mentally unhealthy workplaces, studies have shown that:
- 91% of employees think mental health is an important workplace issue, however only 52% believe their workplace is mentally healthy.
- 1/5 Australian employees report that they have taken time off work due to feeling mentally unwell in the past 12 months.
- $10.9 billion per year = the cost of mental health conditions on Australian workplaces (including absenteeism, presenteeism, and compensation claims).
Fostering Mentally Healthy Workplaces
A mentally healthy work environment is one that promotes a positive and inclusive culture where staff feel appreciated and supported. Studies have shown that cultivating such a workplace culture not only benefits individual employees, but has a profound impact on the organisation as a whole:
- 3/4 of Australian employees say a mentally healthy workplace is important when looking for a job.
- $1 spent creating a mentally healthy workplace results in a positive return on investment (ROI) of 2.3.
- Mentally healthy workplaces enjoy increased staff engagement, performance, and productivity, and are better able to recruit and retain talent.
